![]() They truly care about each other and are fiercely devoted and loyal to each other, and that it’s just so nice to read in a sea of gloomy and depressing comics. ![]() Their interactions are super silly and funny and I love the whole make-shift family dynamic they start to have later on in the series. ![]() Every absurd move, every davil bat hurricane and so on feels absolutely coherent with the world and it’s never out of place.Īnd the characters, oh my god the characters. I already really liked the whole Jump-style, Dragon Ball-on-a-field absurd sport manga genre, but Eyeshield really takes it to the nth degree, and by going the comical route it doesn’t ever feel out of place. A lot it’s also merit of Murata’s drawing style, which was already amazing, even if you can definitely see this was at the beginning of his career: lines are sharper and the paneling is not as masterful as it’s now, but manga in general has changed since the early aughts. Inagaki’s fast paced writing style is so well suited to a sport manga, and the unique characters he craft makes the teams that the protagonists play against super vivid and memorable. Oh my god I remember reading this manga way back when it was still published weekly and loving it (which is why I wanted to have at least a physical edition and I’m buying this crappy one), but even after so many years every new volume I read simply blows me away, and the best part is that if I remember correctly the best is yet to come (we’re currently at volume 15). The edition is really cheaply made and it’s absolutely not worth it the 15€ price, but Eyeshield 21 is INCREDIBLE. ![]() Since Shueisha still hasn’t released some sort of new edition for Eyeshield 21, they opted for a standard 3-in-1 omnibus edition, with the same format as the original and new translations. The Italian manga publisher Planet Manga (a subdivision of Panini, which most of you may know because they make stickers and trading cards) is currently publishing a new edition of the 2002 hit sport manga Eyeshield 21, since the original edition has been out of print for years and it’s nearly impossible to find and complete. ![]()
